Charlie Tighe

Charles Tighe is a Part-Time Assistant Professor of Music Education at Kennesaw State University in Kennesaw, GA.  Mr. Tighe was educated at Kenyon College, University of Colorado - Boulder, and Boston University and received his Orff training at the University of Memphis (Levels and Master Class), University of Nevada - Las Vegas (AOSA Apprenticeship), and the Orff Institute at the Universitát Mozarteum in Salzburg, Austria (international Course).  Mr. Tighe has presented sessions, workshops and Orff courses at the AOSA National Convention, Cobb County Schools District, Georgia Music Educators Association, Virginia Commonwealth University, and  Memphis City Schools.  Internationally, Mr. Tighe has presented at the National Conference of Carl Orff Canda as well as workshops in  Singapore and New Delhi, India.  During his 23 years as a Music Specialist in Cobb County, GA, Mr. Tighe’s students performed at the National Conference of the American Orff Schulwerk Association, three state conferences of the Georgia Music Educators Association, and the State PTA Association.  Mr. Tighe is an author of Silver Burdett Interactive Music published by Savvas (formerly Pearson Education).   His book We Would Do Well to Listen, a contextual history of the Memphis Orff Institute from 1968-1988 and published by Beatin' Path Publications, will be released in Novemebr, 2020.
Professor Tighe has presented conference sessions on diverse subjects including Multiple Intelligences Theory in the Music Classroom, Using Visual Arts to Stimulate Composition, Prosody and Music - The Relationship of Sound in Language and Music, and Integrating Movement and Music with Reading Activities - Tracking, Sequencing, and Beat.    He has conducted Honors Choruses throughout the Southeast and is active in the American Orff Schulwerk Association, Georgia Music Educators Association, and the American Choral Directors Association.  

Janel Huyett

Janel Huyett is a respected music educator with a career spanning over 37 years, all in the state of Arizona. She holds a Bachelor of Science degree in Music Education from the University of Iowa and a Master of Arts in Education: Administration and Supervision from the University of Phoenix. She has taught band, general music, and choir in several different schools in the Mesa, Arizona Unified School District and held the position of District Band Specialist for 12 years. Her work with Phoenix Children’s Chorus began in 2006 as the Conductor of Presto, an entry level performance choir for students in grades 2-5. During her time at PCC, Janel has helped to develop a choral curriculum that introduces music literacy in an engaging and meaningful way to young singers. 
 
She has shared her expertise at state and national conferences, presenting on topics such as “Elementary Vocal Warm-ups” and “Incorporating Literacy into the Elementary Choir Rehearsal”. Additionally, she has conducted performances for both elementary band and choir at state and national conferences

Victor C. Johnson

Victor is a native of Dallas, Texas, and is currently in his 12th year of teaching at the Fort Worth Academy of Fine Arts. He is also in his twelfth year as director of the Children’s Choir of Texas. Victor attended the University of Texas at Arlington where he majored in music education with a concentration in organ. While attending UTA, he served as student conductor of the university’s choral ensembles and opera workshop accompanist. He was also honored with the awards of “Outstanding Music Freshman” in 1997 and also “Outstanding Musician” in 2001.
​
As a composer, Victor has won numerous composition contests and has received ASCAP Awards for the past 12 years. His first piece was published in 1994, while he was a sophomore in high school. To date, he has over 200 octavos and choral products in the catalogs of Heritage Music Press, The Lorenz Corporation, Chorister’s Guild, SoundForth, and Hal Leonard Corporation.

Victor has led reading sessions and choral workshops in numerous states and has conducted All-State and Regional Honor choirs in Texas, California, Oklahoma, Kansas and Kentucky. His own choir was selected to perform at the Texas Music Educators Association Convention in 2011.

His professional affiliations include: American Choral Directors Association, Texas Music Educators Association, Texas Choral Directors Association, ASCAP, and Phi Mu Alpha Sinfonia, Inc.
